How Long Does It Take to Get Real Estate Exam Results?
For most candidates in most states: you find out before you leave the building. Computer-based real estate exams at Pearson VUE and PSI centers typically display or print a pass/fail result the same day. But there are meaningful exceptions and details worth knowing before you sit down.
What Happens, Case by Case
If you pass
You'll usually receive a pass notification — often without an exact score. Many states deliberately report passing results as simply 'pass' and move you to the license application step.
If you fail
You typically get a diagnostic score report showing your performance by topic area. This document matters: it's the map for your retake. Keep it.
The exceptions
A minority of states process results through the commission or a portal, adding days. Paper-based or state-administered exams (rare) also take longer. Your candidate handbook states which applies.
After the Pass: The Clock That Actually Matters
A passing result is not a license. Most states give you a limited window — commonly around one year, but it varies — to complete the license application, fingerprinting, and fees before your exam result expires. Candidates occasionally celebrate the pass, delay the paperwork, and discover their result lapsed. Check your state's deadline the day you pass and calendar it.
